117th Earns 'Excellent' In 8th AF Evaluation

Only six months back from their deployment to Iraq where they controlled the massive Iraqi airspace, the 117th Air Control Squadron captured an “Excellent” in a just completed Standardization/Evaluation Inspection conducted by the 8th Air Force. Validation of the unit’s overall mission readiness was the purpose of the week-long inspection conducted at the unit’s Hunter Army Airfield location.

Especially noteworthy were the “Operations Performance" criteria which garnered an "Excellent" rating. The 8 AF team specifically recognized three unit members as “Superior Performers” during the evaluations including Major Jeff Burdett and MSgt Pat Sullivan and Lt Col Byron King for running an exemplary Stan/Eval program.

Lt Col Joe Ferrero, commander of the 117 ACS, was extremely pleased with the outcome of this critical inspection. "The 117th's airmen are absolutely the best. After controlling 20,000 missions in Iraq while under fire, they returned home and immediately prepared for this inspection. The 'Excellent' rating says it all for their dedication, hard work, and performance."

Savannah’s 117th recently underwent a Change of Command with Lt Col Joe Ferrero succeeding Lt Col Richard Austin as commander.
