General Hammond Earns Second StarBrig. Gen. Scott A. Hammond, Commander of the Georgia Air National Guard received federal recognition as a Maj. Gen. in July. Maj. Gen. Hammond commands the 3,000-member Georgia Air National Guard and is a 20-veteran of the Georgia Air National Guard. Georgia’s Governor Sonny Purdue appointed Hammond, Commander of the Air National Guard in November 2004. A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Hammond entered the 116th Fighter Wing of the Georgia Air National Guard in 1985. He later became commander of the 128th Fighter Squadron. Hammond was appointed 116th Vice Wing Commander in March 1998. He returned to HQ in May 1999 as director of operations and was later appointed Chief of Staff, GA ANG. Maj. Gen.
