TIBLISI, GEORGIA - Soldiers of the Georgia Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 121st Infantry (right) participate in the ceremony officially kicking off Exercise Immediate Response 08 at Vaziani Military Base in the country of Georgia.

The Guard’s 122nd Rear Operations Center also participated and is in-country taking part in the exercise, along with Soldiers from Armenia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan.

Among the officials welcoming the Soldiers to Georgia and for the part they play in Immediate Response was Brig. Gen. William B. Garrett III, commander Southern European Task Force. “First Foot” as it’s known at its home-station in Winder and the “ROC,” which calls Glennville home, are at Vaziani, a former Soviet Army post, for three weeks assisting the Georgians in training for their upcoming deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The Georgian Army is third in the number of troops, about 2000, in Iraq behind the U.S. and Britain. IR08 also is being used by the 121st to get its members ready for deployment next year to Afghanistan.
