Return to First Friday Briefing History Society Announces Members of the Historical Society of the Georgia National Guard hold their annual conference Oct. 23, with the War Between the States as this year’s theme. Scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to noon, the conference returns to the Kennesaw National Battlefield conference and visitor’s center after a long absence. Cost to attend is
$10 per person. Lunch will not be provided, but there are several restaurants in the area from which to choose. During the conference, guest speakers will address subjects such as the Battle Kennesaw, its impact on the Battle of Atlanta and talk of Black confederates. Also, conference
goers will hear a report on the Georgia National Guard’s participation in the 60th anniversary of the D-Day invasion during World War II. To get to the visitor’s center, take Interstate 75 to Exit No. 269. Turn west onto Barrett Parkway and travel three miles to State Route 41. Turn left at the traffic light
travel to the intersection with Stilesboro Road and turn right. The visitor’s center is on the immediate left.
