Historical Society Announces Agenda for October Meeting

Georgia's early militias and an update on Georgians serving in Iraq will highlight the 2005 Historical Society of the Georgia National Guard annual meeting slated for Saturday, Oct. 22, at Fort Gillem's Getaway Club. 

Cost of the conference, which will feature a catered lunch, is $20. The conference begins at 9:30 a.m.

Speakers will address Georgia's colonial and post revolutionary war militia history. Talks will include a presentation on General Oglethorpe's 18th century sortie against the Spanish at Fort Mosa in 1740 and the battle of Bloody Marsh two years later. Another speaker will address militia action on the frontiers of the new state of Georgia.

A guest speaker will also update the group on the Georgia Guard in Iraq.
