117th Air Control Squadron Provides Airspace Control Off Georgia Coast

Florida Air National Guard F-15 Eagle jetfighters fire live AIM-7 air-to-air missiles against airborne drones as Fort Stewart-based 117th Air Control Squadron assure airspace control.  This is the first live fire missile exercise held off Georgia’s Southeast coast.  The fighters looked to the Georgia controllers to provide the "air picture" to shoot down Improvised Tactical Air Launched Drones (ITALDs) launched from Marine F-18A Super Hornets.  Air Controllers also provided for airspace safety and control for the target area.  The 117th returned last year from four-months in Iraq where it controlled the more than 300,000 square miles of Iraqi airspace.
