Guard Receives Army Excellence Award

It has been announced National Guard officials in Washington that the Georgia Army National Guard has been awarded the Army's Community of Excellence Award. Georgia Army Guard representatives accepted this prestigious annual award during an award ceremony held at the nation's capital. 

This is the fifth straight year, officials indicated, that the Georgia Guard has finished in the top five among the 54 states that compete every year for the award. Along with the award comes an estimated $80,000 that will be used for funding leadership development courses for members of the Georgia Department of Defense.

Being named the Army Community of Excellence was due largely to efforts between the Army Guard staff and the DoD's Department of Organizational Development.
