The Georgia
Army National Guard took another step forward in its quality improvement
process when it hosted the Oglethorpe Award Site Visit Team in April.
Earlier
this year, the Army Guard applied for the Oglethorpe Award, which uses
the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Improvement Program criteria to
evaluate high performing businesses and organizations. “As a result of
our application the evaluation team decided that we had a pretty decent
story to tell and they wanted to come out and do an onsite assessment of
what our business processes are, how well they are deployed, and do we
actually use them in the Army National Guard,” explained Maj. Larry
Deaton, of Organizational Development.
“They asked
us some very pointed questions and have already identified some
opportunities for improvement for us.” The announcement of whether the
Guard will earn the award will come later this summer.
The Georgia
Department of Defense was the first state agency to earn the Oglethorpe
when it won the prestigious award in 2002.
