 McLendon promoted to Colonel


Colonel Larry McLendon is pinned to his new rank by his wife Carolyn and his father, Brig. Gen. James "Dutch" McLendon, former commender of the 48th Infantry Brigade.

Larry McLendon, a 30-year veteran of the Georgia Army National and longtime Macon resident was promoted to the rank of Colonel in September. McLendon was promoted during ceremonies at the National Guard’s Regional Training Institute in Macon where he serves as Deputy Commander.

Colonel McLendon has served in a variety of positions around the state, including key staff positions with Macon ’s 48th Infantry Brigade. His assignments include command of the 148th Forward Support Battalion, from Forsyth, where he led the 600-member unit during a high profile deployment to Bosnia in 2001.

The new colonel was pinned to his new rank by his father, Brig. Gen. James “Dutch” Mclendon, who was also served a stellar career in the Georgia Army National Guard, including an assignment as 48th Infantry Brigade commander.

Also participating in the ceremony were his wife Carolyn, along with his daughters Megan, a student at Valdosta State University , and Mallory, a student at Tattnall Academy .
