Colonel Edward M. Chamberlain III of Hampton capped a 40-year military career in July which included service to the U.S. Army and the Georgia Department of Defense at ceremonies at the Georgia Department of Defense. Chamberlain joined the Georgia Department of Defense July 1998 as Director of Workforce Development, and later assumed duties as the Director of Personnel Administration (J1). He has worked with the Department on its strategic plan since inception and was the Georgia Oglethorpe Human Resources Category Lead in 2000 and 2001. He was a member of Georgia DOD’s Command and Staff Team, Strategic Management Board. He is a certified mediator and facilitator. Chamberlain, a native of Clearwater, FL is the son of a career Army officer. He graduated from high school in Atlanta and received a commission as a Regular Army Infantry 2nd Lt. from North Georgia College in 1968. Ed served in the Army as an Airborne Ranger for 30 years in a variety of command and staff assignments, and retired as a Colonel in the Infantry. His assignments included 1st Ranger Battalion and 75th Ranger Regiment as the Deputy Commander, the 82nd Airborne and 101st Airborne Divisions, the 7th Infantry Division (Light), the 1st Cavalry Division in Viet Nam, and the Army and Joint Staff in the Pentagon. His final Army tour was as Commandant of Cadets and Professor of Military Science at his alma mater North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega. Chamberlain received a Bachelor of Science from North Georgia College and a Master of Public Administration from Shippensberg University, PA. He is a graduate of numerous military leadership schools including the Air Force Command and Staff College, the Army War College and Stanford University’s Advanced Leadership Course. Chamberlain is married to Marianna Hilliard Chamberlain of Bowersville, GA. The Chamberlain’s two children and six grandchildren. The reside in the Atlanta area.
